Funding Sources & Opportunities

4.1 University Intramural Support for Research

There are several sources of research funding within the University that comprise the Intramural Funding Programs.

4.1.1 Research Instrumentation Fund

The Research Instrumentation Fund is to be used for equipment purchases only. Funds can be requested to support the replacement/upgrade of, or new purchase of major sophisticated research instruments. Criteria used to evaluate proposals include likely impact of funding on scholarship productivity, enhanced competitiveness to result from an award, increased extramural funding to result from an award, and other factors which demonstrate benefit to the University. Preference is given to multi-user infrastructure instrumentation.

4.1.2 University Research Committee (URC) Funding

There are several sources of support for faculty research and scholarly projects available from University resources. The University Research Committee (URC) administers funds for the following programs:

4.1.2.1 University Research Committee (URC) Faculty Research and Creative Grants Projects

The Faculty Research and Creative Grants Program supports significant scholarly and creative research projects, particularly in the School of Business, Colleges of Architecture and Planning, Education, Fine Arts, Health, Humanities, Law, Social and Behavioral Science, and the Graduate School of Social Work, where extramural funding is difficult to obtain.

4.1.2.2 University Research Committee (URC) Faculty Fellow Awards

The Faculty Fellow Awards are available to tenure track faculty in all disciplines to provide a semester of release time on full salary for scholarly pursuits of research or creative projects.

4.1.2.3 University Research Committee (URC) Distinguished Scholarly & Creative Research Awards

Distinguished Scholarly & Creative Research Awards are given to outstanding tenure track faculty members from all disciplines that have distinguished themselves and the University by having made significant scholarly contributions in their fields.

4.1.2.4 Funding Incentive Seed Grant Program

The Funding Incentive Seed Grant Program is designed to support new areas of research that can lead to extramural funding of new research. The emphasis of the program is on developing new research directions that can produce new funding opportunities from major sponsors of research.
