External Reporting Requirements
Sponsors and funders of university research – including federal and state entities, foundations, and industry partners – are increasingly concerned about the occurrence of “unprofessional behaviors” in the research environment. Unprofessional behaviors is a general term used to describe conduct that contributes to an unsafe and/or hostile working environment, including discrimination, sexual harassment, bullying, abusive conduct, retaliation, and other code-of-conduct violations. Unprofessional behaviors are harmful to the health and safety of individuals and detrimental to research activities and outcomes.
To address these concerns, research sponsors and funders have implemented policies that prohibit unprofessional behavior and reporting requirements to hold offenders accountable and protect sponsored research.
The University of Utah is responsible for developing process and procedures to ensure that the institution fulfills its obligations as the awardee of funded research. For this reason, the University of Utah Offices for Faculty, Human Resources Office, and Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX have developed procedures to support the Office of Sponsored Projects and Office of Research Integrity and Compliance in meeting reporting obligations.
