NIH Salary Cap

Effective on January 11, 2015, the maximum direct salary that an individual can receive from NIH will increase from $181,500 to $183,300. The notice reminds us that the direct salary is "the annual compensation that the applicant organization pays for an individual's appointment, whether that individual's time is spent on research, teaching, patient care, or other activities. Base salary excludes any income that an individual may be permitted to earn outside of the duties to the applicant organization."

The notice NOT-OD-15-049 features a helpful Q&A section to handle anticipated questions about the salary cap and how it affects current and future awards. Post-award questions regarding how this change will be managed should be sent to GCA.
