Responsible Conduct of Research

Responsibe conduct of research applies to all researchers and research staff engaged in scholarly research. The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) require appropriate training in the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR). RCR instruction must be undertaken at least once during each career stage, and at a frequency of no less than once every four years.

The NSF requirements apply to all postdoctoral scholars, graduate and undergraduate students participating on a funded project. The NIH policy requires inclusion of a plan to receive RCR instruction in applications of most types of training and research grants. Several training options are availabe.
